Overview

Chitlapakkam can be said to be a fast developing suburb which is located about 7 km from the Chennai International Airport. Its near to Tambaram which is just 10 (3 km) minutes drive away. Its land value grew as the demographics favoured software professionals working with various IT Companies in Sholinganallur or OMR as the IT super highway is just 9 km away from Chitlapakkam. Tambaram Sanatorium railway station is nearby (2 km) which connects you to the beach railway station to Chengalpattu railwaystation. This developing township is located in such a way that all the major suburbs viz. Pallavaram, Chromepet, Selaiyur, Tambaram Sanatorium, Tambaram, etc. can be reached within 10 minutes.

The main attraction near the area is the famed Kumaran Kundram temple of Lord Muruga atop the hill is a 15 minutes walk from here. While the area used to be pollution free its sudden development has led to rapid increase in the pollution level in the past decade.

The Chitlapakkam Lake which has water almost all throughout the year is all set to be modernized with boating facilities. But due to various problems its been on hold for a while.

Many of the famous schools in the suburbs have their annexe/branch in Chitlapakkam (NSN Matriculation, Vivekananda etc.). The area also has a few other schools (Violet matriculation, Rosily matriculation, Priya matriculation etc.). The area recently saw 2 nationalised banks (Indian Bank and Syndicate Bank) setting up their branches inside. The area also has a small theatre (Varadharaja theatre).

Chitlappakkam and Sithalapakkam are frequently mistaken to be same, as both are suburbs of Tambaram. Chitlappakkam is the more developed and well-established suburb.
