TOWN HISTORY
Gudalur Town Panchayat was constituted as Village Panchayat in 1949 and upgrade Second Grade Town Panchayat as per proceeding No.83/A/64-65 dated. 15.04.1966 of the Director of Rural Development, Chennai and upgraded in to 1970 as Ist Grade Town Panchayat as per Order No.205575/70 dt.15.12.1970 and upgraded into Selection Grade Town Panchayat in 1982 as per Order No.2774/82/K5 dt.04.02.1982 of Director of Rural Development, Chennai and functioning as such till date. The extent of the Town Panchayat is 29.21Sq.K.M. The population of the Town Panchayat is 38859 as per 2011 census, consisting of Men 19707 and Women 19152

POLITICAL WING
The Panchayat council the Political arm of
the Town consists of 18 elected councilors each representing a ward. The
Chairman heads Town Panchayat council which performs its duties as per the
provisions of the District Municipalities Act 1920. The Political wing provides direction to the
Town Panchayat and performs its functions through a set of committees
constituted for different purposes.
EXECUTIVE WING
The Executive wing is responsible for day to
day operations of the Town Panchayat and is headed by the Executive
Officer. The Executive Officer is the
Administrative head of the Town Panchayat and is supported by different
departments in the operations. The
Organizational structure comprises of Four functional department.

GUDALUR Town Panchayat has a historical and cultural heritage. There are number of substantial riots
living in this town. The total revenue of the Town depends mainly on
Agriculture and industries situated around
the town limits. It is located at

PHYSICAL CHARATERISTICS :
The climate of the town, has a low temperature and a high degree of humility. The climate is Chill in many parts of the year. Even though not subjected to extremes of climate between Maximum and Minimum temperature is only moderate and the variation in temperature from day to night is little and give relief from sweltering heat.
The annual
Maximum temperature is 32.70C and Maximum temperature is 240.
The highest temperature of 39.30c occurs in the Month of April and
lowest temperature of 16.70C occurs in the month of February.The
average rain fall for the town is above 27cms. The bulk of which is collected
during the South – west monsoon period (i.e) from June to October. The total number of rainy
days in a year ranges from 70 to 95 days
an average. There are rain during summer also (March to May) best such
Occasion of rainfall are few and for in between.
Commercially exploitable mineral resources are not found in the town. The predominant soil of the town is gravel and red sand with the advent of the Bhavani river in West and a cancel running through the North of the town, the lands on West sides of these river becomes rich in fertile yielding more agriculture outputs. Sugarcane plantain, and coconut are the predominated crops cultivated in these travels.

The existing administrative status of the
town comes under the classification of
Town panchatat which is coming under the administration of Director of
Town panchayats, Government of Tamil
Nadu. The development of the town is guided by the guidelines and instructions
issued by Government of Tamil Nadu, Director of Town panchayats. Based on the
74th amendment Act, the elected council has been formed which will
take care of development and perspective plan of the town.
