Jegathala Town Panchayat is situated on the North Eastern crest of the Nilgiri Plateau at an Elevation of 2000 Meters. Jegathala with its bracing climate occupies of this position as the best in Nilgiris. The Cordite Factory (Defence Institution) is nearest to Jegathala Town Panchayat and it situated on the Road margin of Mettupalayam-Udhagai Road. And the Madras Regimental Centre’s Shooting point area is situated in the middle of this panchayat Area.

Jegathala is the second Hill station of the Nilgiri Plateau, it is 12 K.M. from Udhagamandalam and 38 K.M from Mettupalayam. The average rain fall is around 70”. Due to the Protection offered by the High mountain ranges, the South west Monsoon is not very strong. Only October, November the North East Monsoon causes heavy rain.

Around this Panchayat Thummanatty Village Panchayat is situated in the East, in the west Hubathalai Village panchayat, in the North Naduhatty Village Panchayat and in the south Ketti Town Panchayat.

In the East in lackumanai Area the Thick and the Historic Forest is situated and it is nearing to the Dhoddabetta Peak, it is the rainfall are through out the year from that place we got the major water supply for the hole panchayat Area.

There is one beautiful Temple is situated in Jagathala Village namely Neela Mariamman Temple. The major portion of this Panchayat area is covered by Tea Plantations, and the potatoes, Cabbages and other English Vegetables are cultivated in some areas.
