Keeranur town had been constituted as Village Panchayat vide G.O.Ms.No.1164 dated 14.07.1913 and it had been upgraded as Second Grade Town Panchayat till 23.05.1961 and as First Grade Town Panchayat vide RD No.43223/98 of the Director of Rural Development, Chennai. This Town Panchayat which is situated at 18 Kilometers towards Dharapuram which is in Palani Taluk of Dindigul District Administration. This town panchayat is located at 4km away from Thoppampatty (Palani to Dharapuram Main Road).The population of the town as per 2011 census is 7200 with an extend of 12.8 Sq.Km., Keeranur is one of the important Town Panchayat in Dindigul District and is very famous for ancient temples. At New Moon Day on Thai (Tamil Month) people from various places visit the Dhurkkaiamman Temple.The Eswaran Temple situated here is under the control of Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Thirukoil Trust. It is one of the famous temples around Keeranur. It consists of many ancient culverts shows the ancient history of Tamilnadu. The Mosque found here is one of the oldest and famous one. This town consists of 40% Muslim people. During Ramzan and Bakrit many devotees all over the Tamil Nadu visit the mosque at Keeranur. This Mosque is a symbol of Hindu Muslim unity. During festival the Muslim people share their happiness with other community people.

கீரனூர் பேரூராட்சி முதன் முதலில் கிராம பஞ்சாயத்தாக அரசாணை எண். 1164ன் கீழ் நாள்.14.7.1913ல் துவங்க(அறிவிக்க)ப்பட்டது. மேலும் இரண்டாம் நிலை பேரூராட்சியாக 23.05.1961ல் தரம் உயர்த்தியும், பின்னர் சென்னை ஊரக வளர்ச்சி துறை இயக்குநர் அவர்களது கடித எண். 43223/98ன் படி முதல் நிலை பேரூராட்சியாக தரம் உயர்த்தப்பட்டது. இப்பேரூராட்சி பழனியிலிருந்து தாரபுரம் நோக்கி சுமார் 18கி.மீ., தொலைவில் திண்டுக்கல் மாவட்ட நிர்வாகத்தின் கீழ், பழனி தாலுகாவின் கீழ் உள்ளது. மேலும் இப்பேரூராட்சி தொப்பம்பட்டியிலிருந்து சுமார் 4கி.மீ., தொலைவில் அமைந்துள்ளது(பழனி-தாரபுரம் முதன்மைச்சாலை). இப்பேரூராட்சி சமார் 12.8சதுர கி.மீ., பரப்பளவு உள்ளது. மேலும் 2011 மக்கள் தொகை கணக்கெடுப்பின்படி இப்பேரூராட்சியில் சுமார் 7200 மக்கள் தொகை உள்ளது. திண்டுக்கல் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள முக்கிய பேரூராட்சிகளில் கீரனூர் பேரூராட்சியும் ஒன்று, இப்பேரூராட்சியில் பழங்கால கோயில்கள் உள்ளன. மேலும் இங்கு அமைந்துள்ள துர்க்கையம்மன் கோயிலுக்கு தை பௌர்ணமி அன்று வெவ்வேறு இடங்களிலிருந்து மக்கள் வந்து செல்கின்றனர். இங்கு அருள்மிகு தண்டாயுதபாணி சுவாமி திருக்கோயிலின் உபகோயிலான ஈஸ்வரன் கோயில் அமைந்துள்ளன. இக்கோவில் கீரனூர் சுற்றி அமைந்துள்ள முக்கிய கோவில்களில் ஒன்று. மேலும் தமிழ்நாட்டின் வரலாற்றுத்துவம் வாய்ந்த கல்வெட்டுகளை இக்கோவில் கொண்டுள்ளது. இங்கு அமைந்துள்ள பள்ளிவாசல் மிகவும் பழமையும், சிறப்பும் வாய்ந்த ஒன்று, இப்பேரூராட்சியில் 40சதவிகிதம் மக்கள் இஸ்லாமியர்கள் உள்ளனர். தமிழ்நாட்டின் பல இடங்களிலிருந்து ராம்ஜான் மற்றும் பக்ரித் பண்டிகைக்கு கீரனூர் பள்ளிவாசலுக்கு வருகின்றனர். இப்பள்ளிவாசலானது இந்து மற்றும் இஸ்லாமியர்களின் ஒற்றுமையை காண்பிக்கின்றது. பண்டிகை காலங்களில் இஸ்லாமிய மக்கள் வேறு இனத்தினருடன் தங்களது மகிழ்ச்சியை பகிர்ந்து கொள்கின்றனர்.
