Peralam is a first grade Town panchayat in Thiruvarur District and
situate at a distance of about 22

2.DEMOGRAPHIC STRUCTURE
The Extent of Town is about 3.96 s.qm
and is divided in to 12 wards. The
length of the streets of this Town is about 13.569 km. The population of this town as per 2011
census is 6149.
3.PROFILE OF THE TOWN
The Town Panchayat is situated in Nannilam
Taluk of Thiruvarur Dt.. The climate is generally moderate hot and moderate
chill. The average annual rainfall of
this town is 55 mm. The North East
monsoon contributes much for the rainfall.
The Railway line from Thiruvarur to
Mayiladuthurai runs at the south of the town.

4(ii). Street
Light :
The provision and maintenance of
street lights is an obligatory function of Peralam Town Panchayat. TNEB is responsible for installing new street
light poles and drawing electric cables to light them. The Town Panchayat bears the expenses
incurred. Temporary lighting arrangement
is also extended by the local body in case of fairs and festivals organized in
the town.
There are about 755 street lights in
the town limit. The average spacing of
street light pole is 70 m.

high mast lamp has been provided.
Inspite of average spacing of 70m between the street poles. It has been observed that the illumination
especially in new extension areas and crowded places is poor.

elementary School for boys and girls are separately functioning very well.
