INTRODUCTION OF TOWN:

Punjai pugalur Town is the nucleus around which the hule of all kinds of economic and social activities. Punjai pugalur town Panchayat lies on one of the nerve-centre of N.H. – 7 though which all kinds of transport take place. Through Punjai pugalur more than 80 Buses ply with innumerable frequencies of each vehicle to Tiruchengode, Salem, Nammakal, Bangaluru, Dindigul, Madurai, and surrounding places. Thousands of heavy vehicles berry their merchandise gouds along this transport centre loading and unloading the gouds at Punjai pugalur and Paramathi Velur (Located near 3 km). Near by this place Hundreds of passengers alight here and travel from this place to the nearby commercial cities like Tiruchengode, Nammakal, Paramathi Velur and Kodumudi. This Town has following natural boundries

1.1         TOWN HISTORY

Punjai Pugalur Town Panchayat is one of the Important Town Panchayat in Karur District, This Town Punjaipugalur is also Known as Pugaliyur in eigth century and Pugalur in 13th Century. This town was ruled out by Shera, Chola and Pandia’s. The King Paranthaga Nedunchadayan defeated Athiyan King in this Town. Pugalimalai a Famous Temple is Located in middle of the Town and it is  also Called as Arunattar malai.

In Pugali Malai there are Six Short labels on the rock cut bed son the floor of the caverns. The rock is weather beaten. The inscription in the hill are Spectacular confirmation that one of the branch of the family of Chera ruled from Karur ( Vanji ). It is also Known fron the rock, Jainism had already reached the Tamil country and received royal Patronage. The Holi River Cauvery flews nearer to the Town.


1.2         TOWN ADMINISTRATION

The Punjaipugalur Panchayat which was formed as a Village Panchayat in 1935 and the Panchayat had got                 up-gradation as a Town Panchayat in following manner.

1. Second  Grade          :      In the year 1935

2. First Grade            :      In the year 1953

3. Selection Grade       :      In the year 1976

The extent of the Town Panchayat is 9.3350 Sq.K.M.  The population of the Town Panchayat is  20309  as per 2001  census, consisting  10143  men and 10166 women.

The town was delineated to 18 Administration wards.  The Urban local Body elections were held on 25.10.2006 and 30.10.2006 for the posts of Councillors and Chairman Respectively.
