Introduction of the Town Panchayat :

      Kalambur Town Panchayat is coming under the administrative territory of Tiruvannamalai District and Polur  Legislative Constituency.  Aliyabath is the revenue name of this town. The town extends over on area of 5.48 Sq k.m.  This town is situated along the National Highways Road  of  Ranipet to Tiruvannamalai.  The population of the town as per 2011 censes is 14311.  Now the population is nearly 19,800. 


Constitution of Town Panchayat:

Kalambur Town Panchayat is Constituted as Second Grade town panchayat in 1917.  It is upgraded as First Grade town panchayat from 14.1.1963 as per G.O M.S No. 1128 Dated : 17.04.1961 & G.O M.S No. 2594 Dated : 28.11.1962.  It is further upgraded as Selection Grade Town Panchayat as per Director of Town Panchayat RC. No. 19147 / 83 / J5 Dated : 07.11.1983.  Kalambur Town Panchayat is formed by merging too hamlet villages namely 1. Nariyampettai 2. Ayyampettai.    This town panchayat is located at distance of 9 k.m of famous Silk Town Arni on the East, the historical  Padavedu Renugambal Temple at a distance of 15 km on the West, the river Kamandala Naga Nathi at a distance of 9 k.m on North, the famous temple Arunachaleswarar Temple Town and historical head quarter Tiruvannamalai at a distance of  55 k.m on South.    The town panchayat consist of 15 Wards.

Importance of Town panchayat:

Agriculture is the main object of the publics living in this town panchayat.  Weaving is the Secondary object of the publics.  Apart from this there are 39 Rice Mills functioning in this town.  Among this there are 20 Modern Rice Mills producing agmark certified rices.  There are nearly 5000 peoples get job opportunity by doing manual works in this modern rice mills.  There are nearly 500 hand weaving  weavers producing  Silk Sarees in various designs which is famous for Arni Silk Sarees.  There is a Co – Operative Milk Producer and Sales Society which is the famous and grate society in the District.  Nearly 1500 families benefited by this milk society.  Thus the Kalambur Town Panchayat is famous for Rice and Milk at State Level.  The above mentioned Rice and Milk production is the landmark of this town panchayat

History of the District:

            Kalambur Town Panchayat is situated in Tiruvannamalai District . The famous historical temple Arunachaleswarar is situated in Tiruvannamalai  which is well known temple of Tamilnadu. It is famous due to the pilgrims girivalam on full moon days of every month towards  a distance of 7km around the Arunachaleswarar  temple .

            The Sathanur Dam is situated in Tiruvannamalaia District at a distance of 15km from Tiruvannamalai towards south side. The river kamandala naga nathi starting from the origin of Jawaddu  hill area and the naga nathi starting from the origin of Amirthi forest join together and named as Kamandala Naga Nathi which is flowing throw this District.

            Cheyyar River is another river which is starting from west side hills of Tiruvannamalai District. Both above to rivers join together at near Kanchipuram named as river Palar.

Environmental Management (SWM)

In Kalambur Town Panchayat  15 Public Health workers and one Sanitary supervisor is engaged in the field of public health to maintain the public health.  For public health purpose one Tipper lorry, one Tractor, two Power Tillers , three Try Cycles and  twelve pushcarts engaged to collect the garbage and solid waste generated in the town panchayat area.  The above mentioned vehicles are used to collect the garbages daily in market areas, shandy, Kalyana Mandabam, Cinema Theatres, Schools, Bus Stands, Temples  and other important public areas.  The collected garbages are segregated and sent to the compost yard.  The door to door solid waste collection was started from December 2007 and done in 12 wards out of 15 wards daily by trolley vehicles with the help of women SHG group.  The plastic garbages are collected separately and stock at this compost yard.   The drainages are cleaned once in week by the sanitary workers.  Power spraying is done using baytex and other mosquito killing minerals, once in 15 days in all town panchayat areas

      Solid waste collected from door to door is segregated in the compost yard and Bio degradable Solid waste are made natural manure for agriculture purpose .Other solid waste plastics glass etc are sold for recycling purpose. The natural manure produced is sold at rate of 1 Rs. per  kg for the agriculture purpose .Thus the solid waste management scheme is functioning profitable manner in this Town Panchayat.

                        The Town Panchayat is have its own  compost park which is situated in survey No.1175 at an extent of  0.50 cent . The Town Panchayat obtained No Objection to above site from Tamilnadu pollution Control Board in Lr. No.DEE/TNPCB/VLR/MSW2008 Date:28.4.08.

There is a Anchaneyar Temple at Arni – Polur Road in this town panchayat.  This is maintained by Government Hindu Charitable Trust.  During Tamil New Year there is a grand festival is celebrated every year in this temple.  Laksha Deepam is the famous function at this temple.  During that time nearly 50000 peoples of this surrounding area gathered at this temple and worship the Lard Anchaneya. 

Soild Waste Management (SWM) Profile:

            Kalambur Town Panchayat consist of 15 wards. Among  15 wards 10 wards (1,2,3,4,5,9,10,11,12,13,14,15)  area is covered under solid waste collecting system. The whole town consist of 82 streets among that 76 streets covered under this solid waste collecting system. In that area daily from 6 am to 10 am the garbages are collected door to door by women’s SHG by trallies. Nearly 1.0 ton garbages collected daily by trallies and tractors which is used in  public health work.  The collected garbages are segregated  as Bio degradable garbages and non Bio degradable garbages daily in the compost yard from 2pm to 5pm. The Bio degradable solid waste are kept in tubs in the solid waste management shed and it is made natural manure after period of 60 to 70 days with proper method of converting as compost.
